Over 200 lots from the Petroliana collection 14-28 July will be offered by Broad Arrow Auctions between 14-28 July. Although the auction catalogue consists mostly of interesting automobilia artefacts, the auction is headlined by a 1963 Bedford CA Dormobile that was restored for the Wheeler Dealers TV show in 2022.
The idea behind the restoration of this charming Bedford CA Dormobile was to bring it slightly more up-to date, by fitting a more powerful 2.0 engine, automatic transmission as well as re-trimming the interior with new cabinets – while retaining the characterful original colour scheme. The Wheeler Dealers overhaul in 2022 was of course fully documented via the television series. The roof canopy has been replaced with genuine red and white Dormobile striped canvas. This unusual alternative to a VW camper is estimated to sell for £20,000-30,000, and is offered with no reserve.
Much of the collection is themed around oil and petrol-themed items, such as the gorgeous Atlantic Motor Spirit Petrol Pump. Usually this kind of item you might find in a US collection, this Atlantic Petrol and Union Motor Spirit dual-cylinder, hand-crank petrol pump – designed by Gilbert & Barker Manufacturing Co. of Springfield, Massachusetts – has been fully restored and is ready to be enjoyed. It’s expected to make £8000-12,000.
Of course, no collection of this magnitude would be complete without a Monsieur Bibendum. Standing at 1.2 metres tall, this wonderfully original Michelin Man figurine is in excellent condition, making it a stunning piece of interior automotive art for the home, workshop, or office. Expect to pay £2000-3000.
