UK-based automotive company Lanzante has announced the latest of its road-legal converted projects, the Porsche 935. If you don’t remember, the 935 was a Porsche 992 GT2 RS-based track-only special, paying homage to the original 935 ‘Moby Dick’ racer. Lanzante has extensive expertise in converting track-only cars into road-legal ones, and for this project two customers from the pool of 77 935 owners were approached by Lanzante. Both have been converted to full road-legal specification, being unveiled to the public for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
In order to make the 935 capable (and legal) for road use, Lanzante has carried out significant upgrades throughout. In summary, a unique suspension set up, newly designed and engineered wheels, upgraded braking system to include an integrated handbrake and a bespoke electronics system. One of the neatest aspects is the sympathetic integration of bespoke headlights into the aerodynamic bodywork – these imitate the pre-existing bonnet air intakes and, as with the other enhancements, are designed to look like original, factory-installed equipment.
The two cars at Goodwood have both been finished in iconic motorsport-inspired liveries. Thile the static example is a modern interpretation of the red and blue Martini livery, the car that will be running up the hill is a slightly more eye-catching and slughtly more McLaren-themed white Marlboro chevron design.
Best known for its roll in the original McLaren F1’s historic Le Mans win in 1995, in more recent years Lanzante’s business has evolved into various exciting areas around road cars. Not just one of the foremost experts in maintaining the McLaren F1 road cars, the company has more recently been behind a number of exciting projects in recent years – one of which is the 911 TAG Turbo, which sees an original F1-raced V6 turbo F1 engine installed in the back of a Porsche 930 for a somewhat unique and incredibly intense driving experience.
The stand at Goodwood has also seen the debut of a freshly developed, more lightweight and enhanced version of the TAG Turbo, named TAG Championship (pictured below). Just three of these will be built in tribute to the four-time Formula 1 champion, Alain Prost.
