With the Salon Privé spectacular at Blenheim Palace just a month away, more of the sensational cars that will be on display are being revealed.
As well as the cars previously highlighted, including the one-off 1950 Ferrari 166MM/212 Export ‘Uovo’ [egg] and 1957 Ferrari 335 S driven by the likes of Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, Mike Hawthorn and ‘Taffy’ von Trips, there will be a selection of historically important Rolls-Royces to mark the car company’s 120th anniversary.
The display will feature The Sluggard, an experimental 1911 40/50hp (chassis 1701) that was Rolls-Royce’s first car to top 100mph. It will be joined by a 1923 American-built ‘Springfield’ Silver Ghost Pall Mall, 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental by Freestone & Webb, Hooper-bodied 1953 Silver Wraith, a Park Ward 1954 Silver Dawn Drophead Coupé and a 1965 Phantom V by Mulliner Park Ward. Rather more modern will be a 1988 Hooper two-door Silver Spirit.
The cars will be the main draw for the Salon Privé Concours presented by Aviva Private Clients, which takes place on the lawns at Blenheim Palace on 28-29 August. For the first-time visitors can buy a limited number of entry-only tickets for Salon Privé’s main concours days (28-30 August) at £75 apiece.
There’s also a brand new event for 2024. Called MotorAvia, the Jet Centre party will take place at London Oxford Airport, just a few miles from Blenheim Palace, on the evening of Tuesday 27 August from 6-10pm. It will preview some of the concours cars, supercars plus the aircraft from Citation, King Air, Cessna, Boeing Business Jets and Bell helicopters, complemented by top-notch food and entertainment. The event rounds of the Tour Privé when the participants drive through the Cotswolds and have lunch at Waddesdon Manor.
Wednesday 28 August is the first day of the concours and is also judging day, when the 20 ICJAG have the task of picking a winner from the concours beauties. There will also be over 40 luxury brands on display for visitors to browse as well as the famous catering. All the winners will be clearly signposted for visitors on Thursday while Friday 29 August is Salon Privé Style Friday presented by Boodles.
As well as the concours car, there will a smorgasbord of brand new cars at the event that has become synonymous with launches. For 2024, they will include: Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Koenigsegg, Maserati, Oshe Automotive, Theon Design and Lotus.
A great tip for Thursday attendees is to make sure they stay and watch the concours cars parade through neighbouring Woodstock village from 6pm.
The event changes gear dramatically at the weekend when the lawns are taken over with huge special anniversary celebrations including a 50-car homage to 50 years of Porsche Turbo and 25 GT3s to honour the model’s silver anniversary. Saturday is also the Salon Privé Club Trophy presented by Lockton and this year will be the biggest ever with 24 clubs and in more than 1500 cars. Participants include everything from the Abarth Owners Club to the Ultima Owners Group, with a wealth of marque-specific clubs and owners’ groups in between.
